New Animal Care Facility coming to a Site near You!!!
By Kristine Anderson, AFV Board President

The animals of this valley will finally get the "temporary" home they deserve.  The dedicated staff of AFV along with the enthusiastic volunteers will be able to work in a controlled atmosphere.  After 10 years of countless meetings with elected officials, our architect, design consultants and donors, the dream has moved one more step to reality.

The new animal care facility has received all the necessary approvals from the city councils and the county board of supervisors to finally fund the construction and move this project along.  The next step will be to approve the operations agreement with the JPA.  The financing team of the JPA will be selling bonds while the plans are put out for construction.  Next, will be ground breaking and construction.  Hopefully, if everything goes as planned the new shelter should be opened December, 2008.  We will keep you updated.

There are numerous people that need to be thanked!  Thank you to George Miers, our architect, for sticking with AFV and not giving up hope.  Thank you to the JPA members and their staffs who have worked to put this together into a comprehensive plan that many said could not happen.  Thank you to each City Council and the County Board of Supervisors who voted to take the leap of faith and make the commitment for their respective agency regarding the 30 year bond.  Thank you to EVMWD for allowing us to build our dream on a very prime piece of property.   Thank you to the building fund and brick donors for your generous contributions over the years.  Thank you to AFV's supporters who wrote letters, made phone calls, and emailed city officials as well as spoke at the public meetings.  Thank you to my colleagues and employees of AFV as your commitment to the animals is outstanding.  And last, but not least, thank you for all the prayers and well wishes regarding the animals and the conditions they have been subjected to.

It was a great feeling the night that Lake Elsinore City Council voted in favor of the funding.  What joy it will be when we step into the new facility for the first time.

Thank you & God bless you!!!
